Providing emergency oxygen is the standard of practice for treating injured scuba divers - since it provides vital oxygen to starved tissues and aids in bubble reduction. It is a well-documented fact in diving accident management that early oxygen administration may be the most significant factor contributing to success in treating diving injuries.
What is surprising to hear is that less than 50% of all injured divers receive ANY emergency oxygen in the field and fewer still receive oxygen concentrations anywhere close to approaching the recommended 100% (source: Aug 2008 - DAN website). As safety conscious divers, we must all try to better this percentage of divers receiving any emergency oxygen, when they most need it...
It is RescuEAN’s hope that the pod may considerably improve these low percentage numbers. As we are all taught during training, 100% oxygen is best but other appropriate and effective emergency oxygen treatment can still save a life...
