Pod Maintenance:
The pod and it components have been designed to withstand the effects associated with scuba diving. The metal components are 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel and therefore, should not suffer even if used regularly in salt water as the metal is corrosion resistant.
The only items that could need maintenance are the three internal ‘O’ rings. During testing with a professional diving organisation using the pod in rescue scenarios and keeping on a rib six days a week for the past 12 months, there have been no reported maintenance issues. Likewise, following use by several dive clubs and schools since August 2007, there have been no reported problems.
However if found that the ‘O’ rings do need replacement in the future, RescuEAN will look at producing a ’kit’ which will include an ‘O’ ring replacement tool, ‘O’ rings and fitting instructions. As with all ‘O’ ring replacement, patience is required but worthwhile.
Obviously, the actual use of the pod varies greatly depending on the customer. From the excessive use during our testing to simply connecting to an air source and blowing through once every three months for the sport diver. Between these degrees of use will fall the dive school using in EFR, O2 and Rescue training/courses and Instructors demonstrating its use. Bearing in mind that after our testing for equivilent of 300 + days in actual scenarios - mainly in salt water, the lifetime of the pod for most customers would be a approximately 5 years without any maintenance issues. However, RescuEAN will continue to monitor this and will keep its customers advised.
IMPORTANT:
It is strongly recommended that after every use, as with your other dive equipment, the pod and tubing be rinsed in fresh, clean water and ‘blown’ through with air before storing for your next dive. It is also recommended that the pod is tested every three months. It should be connected to an air source and run for a few seconds on each airflow.
